THE WHAT - WHY AND HOW TO HELP
What is The Suicide Journal?

The Suicide Journal is a personal journey that contain facts about suicide, ways to get help and stories told by survivors. Survivors are those who have lost someone to suicide and those who are surviving their personal suicide journey. The goal of the journal is to provide an outlet to write about how you feel, to learn facts you might not be aware of and to understand what those who have committed suicide might have been going through. The hope is to discourage suicide attempts by showing the pain that it leaves behind in additional to learning more about the pain that's felt by those who are thinking about suicide.

Why was it created?

Whether you are hearing about the suicide of a bright star or surviving the suicide of a loved one, it is a tough journey. I met a lady while in a training. We started talking about, "What we would focus on if we had the time?" At the time, I was mourning the loss of Robin Williams. Robins comedy had lighted my life on so many tough days. I was selfishly angry about his suicide. I had not considered what he might have been going through. Because of Robin all I that was on my mind was why and how the loss could have been prevented. When I told her I would write a book about suicide and dedicate my life to prevention, she started to cry. She confided in me that she was dealing with the unexpected suicide of her father.
His suicide came as a surprise to her entire family and it was hard to deal with it day by day. I promised this beautiful, successful and brokenhearted stranger that my words would become actions and that I would add survivor support to my mission. Her and people like her surviving the loss of a loved one or surviving their own journey through the gaze of suicide is the “why” of this book and the supporting campaign. Together, let’s do something about this. Our contributions may be small but if we help one person, all the effort is worth it!
